Lucy lookin' good!
As any parent I think my kids are stinkin' cute! She was given this adorable headband and it happened to match the PJ's for the night...put that together with her amazing red lips and we've got a photo shoot! *sorry for any blurry pics...these are from my phone**

Again, another mid-December moment. Broghan's parents are seriously awesome at coming to visit and help out on random weekends. Just this past weekend Broghan's mom popped over for a whole day to help take care of the kids so I could attend a funeral in town and go to a Doula-client meeting and Broghan could ref hockey games. So awesome. We even made a record number of errand stops while out because we were able to move so quickly with two adults! AWESOME!

Keller's first REAL haircut
This happened in mid-December - but here are the pictures of Keller getting his first big-boy style hair cut. Usually Broghan just gives him a buzz-cut at home, but I was looking to get him trimmed up and looking good with longer hair. :).
My future.
Ahhh this is the cloud that hangs over me ALL THE TIME. What to do with MY future? What to do with MY education? What to do with MY career?
As a mom, and especially as a stay-at-home mom, I think I've pretty much succumbed to the idea that this is my life (for now). My kids, my husband, my home, my dog and my husband's practice are my "job". I'm in a very supporting role and I like it - but I know my potential is MUCH more than this. I run into moments where my brain (if it had a voice) is crying - screaming - for some attention. And so my husband and I have had more conversations than I can count discussing what to do with my future. What are my interests? What are my passions? What should I finish my degree in? Up until recently, the answers have been foggy. I couldn't pin-point or plan for much of anything because I just didn't know what I wanted. I couldn't decide.
As I said, only up until recently. So what have I figured out? I love babies, birth, pregnancy, health, women's rights, politics (some), wellness, nutrition and my family. So here is my path that I am *****hoping***** upon hoping to implement and follow thru on. I am on a course to be finish my doula certification on time - by the end of February 2012. With that in my back pocket, I plan to get CNA certified (whether through a class or from a part-time j.o.b.) by the end of this summer - take prerequisite coursework from the Fall of 2012 until the Fall of 2013 at which time I'll be enrolling into an Accelerated BSN program.
That's right ladies and gents - its nursing school for this chica. Why BSN you ask? Well, when considering the most cost/time effective and efficient way to get involved into those things I listed above - in all honesty - I should have and need to have a medical background. I also already have a Bachelor's degree and don't feel like doing a 4 year program or simply a graduate level program all over again. Nursing jobs provide a lot of flexibility (if you can find the right stuff) and offer great benefits. I know they are hard - but I'm a tough girl and like to work hard, I like to be challenged and I thrive with new things.
One of the craziest parts to planning and mapping this out is realizing that when I'm done, Keller will be 5 and Lucy will be 3! Wow. Both young but SO much older than they are now. SO much life is going to happen between now and then and I welcome it all. Obviously, this new path is going to bring about difficulties I can't even anticipate; but I think, and my husband agrees, the benefits of a path like this are much much greater than the sacrifices or the challenges.

Lucy is a scootin' machine!
I've been horrible at updates! *I think this is the start to every blogpost recently*
Anyways, I will hopefully get an update out regarding our holiday adventures; but right now it's time for a Lucy update. She has her 9 month pediatric check up in a few weeks still but there have been some serious developmental changes in her recently.
Most notably is her ability to scoot! She can't crawl like what you would envision a little one to crawl like...but using (only) her right arm and leg she manages to move at a pretty fast pace. It is a goal of mine to capture this on video since I enjoy watching it so much. But this does create other issues (again) in child-proofing things. The biggest issue right now is similar to Keller, Lucy seems to be very much attracted to the dog dishes! Anytime she notices no one is paying that close of attention to her she makes a bee-line for the dog food! She hasn't quite gotten the pincer grab down, but she certainly can grab one or two pieces and makes every attempt to get them into her mouth. She's still sitting at two bottom teeth only - so chewing the dog food hasn't happened yet - which is nice for me since it gives me a pretty good window of opportunity to remove a whole piece instead of some chewed up pieces. I know, I know...details are weird.
The other notably awesome thing is that she is standing, pulling herself to standing, and walking along the furniture by herself. Did I mention she isn't even 9 months? This is a bittersweet thing since I am excited my little girl is seemingly so smart and developing so well - but I also am really hesitant to say I'm excited for two walkers, and let's be honest, Keller is a runner. However, again, it is extremely fun to see her pull herself up and be so proud of herself. Yesterday she seemed to be really interested in learning how to do squats and practiced that move for quite a while.
We still aren't onto solids, although Lucy seems very interested and I have offered. I think its the whole two teeth thing (personally) but she is slowly but surely getting better at it. I have no plans to wean earlier than she decides to, I am selfishly looking forward to a time when we get to just the morning and evening nursing sessions. Those are my favorites anyways since it's usually just us and we get the time to snuggle and "talk".
Lastly, Lucy is close to giving her big brother a run for his money. She has been getting better at reaching for things that he has and really pushing his buttons in terms of taking and playing with his toys. She also goes for every snack he has; which is kind of fun to watch her do since he is usually the one initiating the contact between them. I'm excited to see how much both of them and then their relationship changes over the next few months! I can't believe she'll be one in just three more months!!

The food train begins...
I have had a gut feeling ever since Lucy was born that she'd be "ahead" of the curve for what we experienced with Keller. Up until this point, that feeling has been correct. He sat at around 6 mos. Lucy - 5; Keller was always right on for age/size of clothes and Lucy is one set ahead (@ 6mos she was in 9 mos clothes). Keller cut his first set of teeth around 8-9 months and Lucy cut her just before the 7 month marker. I chalk most of these differences up to 1) obviously different kids but mostly 2) Keller was early.
So now our next adventure (before the inevitable crawling/walking journey) is food. I guess with Keller he didn't even show interest in our food until around 10 months old. He didn't have teeth until just before then but didn't even grab at our plates or spoons really. Lucy is quite different. Since around 4 months she's been trying to get to our plates and recently, that interest has become difficult to ignore so we've started our transition to solids. It will be slow and pretty boring but we've begun.
So far she's gotten to experience sweet potatoes, apples, avocados and bananas. Oh and the yogurt big brother tried to feed her early on. We've also let her "snack" on chunks of cucumber, carrots and big pea pods. She seems eager all around so I'm curious to see how quickly she transitions to food...I'm hoping slowly but who knows!

I'm having an affair.
Well I am. It's just with a 7 1/2 month old. Haha. This is seriously all that I could come up with when trying to explain the relationship Lucy and I have formed as of late. I think she is going through or about to go through a growth spurt since the demand for nursing has been so intense.
Here's why I consider it an affair.
- We spend literally all our free time together.
- I leave my husband during odd hours to be with her.
- I am at her mercy. She calls, I come running.
- Well..there is the nursing relationship (boobs if you don't catch my drift)
- Whenever I go to her at night, I usually don't have a shirt on or I am about to take it off.
- When she is finished with me, she very quickly flips herself over to face the wall and falls asleep.
Hahahaha....okay sorry just had to share this. It might not be funny to anyone but me. :)
